Denylists

How to prevent certain channels, roles, or members from earning XP.

Denylists

Configure denylists in /settings > Denylist.

Denylists apply to every way of earning XP, including messages, voice activity, reactions, and XP drops. Kiai supports three types of denylists: Channels, Roles, and Users.

Each denylist type holds up to 25 entries.

Channels

A channel denylist stops XP from being earned in specific channels. You can add text channels, channel categories, voice channels, and forum channels.

Channel denylists work well for channels that:

  • Get spammed or flooded often
  • Are not meant for meaningful activity

Example: Add #memes to the channel denylist so members do not earn XP there. This keeps XP focused on channels like #general or #help.

Roles

A role denylist stops XP from being earned by members who hold a specific role.

Example: Add your moderator role to the role denylist so moderators do not earn XP and dominate the leaderboard.

Users

A user denylist stops XP from being earned by a specific member.

User denylists work well for:

  • A member who is abusing the XP system
  • Disruptive behavior that would unfairly affect a member's progression

Example: A member spams messages to gain XP quickly. Add them to the user denylist to stop further XP gain while keeping the system fair for other members.
