Advanced XP Settings

Kiai includes advanced XP features that reward consistent activity, create surprise bonuses, and keep members engaged over time. These features are XP Streaks, XP Drops, XP Decay, and Reaction XP.

XP Streaks

XP Streaks reward members for earning XP on consecutive days.

Configure XP Streaks in /settings > XP Streaks.

  • XP Streaks: Turns the feature on or off.
  • XP Streak Announcement Channel: The channel where streak milestone announcements are sent. If you leave this unset, Kiai sends the announcement in the last channel the member was active in. If neither is available, Kiai does not send an announcement for that milestone.
  • Minimum Days for Streak Bonus (premium): How many consecutive active days a member needs before Kiai announces and logs their streak. A member still earns their streak bonus XP each day starting on day 1. This setting controls only when the streak becomes visible to the server.
  • Minimum XP per Day Required (premium): The XP a member must earn from messages in a day for that day to count toward their streak.
  • Bonus XP per Streak Day (premium): The bonus XP a member earns for each day they keep their streak.
  • XP Streak Message (premium): The message sent when Kiai announces a streak milestone. The message must include {streak}.

Example: Minimum Days for Streak Bonus is 3, Minimum XP per Day is 50, and Bonus XP per Streak Day is 10. A member earns at least 50 XP from messages on each of 3 consecutive days. They earn 10 bonus XP starting on day 1, but Kiai only announces and logs the streak once they pass day 3.

Only XP earned from messages counts toward a streak. Voice XP, Reaction XP, and XP claimed from an XP Drop do not advance or maintain a member's streak.

XP Drops

XP Drops give members occasional bonus XP that they can claim in chat.

Configure XP Drops in /settings > XP Drops.

  • XP Drops: Turns the feature on or off.
  • Drops per Day: How many drops happen per day. Set between 1 and 100.
  • Minimum Time Between Drops and Maximum Time Between Drops: The range of time between drops. Set between 5 minutes and 24 hours.
  • Drop Expiration Time: How long a drop stays open before it expires. Set between 5 minutes and 7 days.
  • Minimum XP Amount and Maximum XP Amount: The range of XP a single drop can contain.
  • Message: The message sent when a drop appears. Use {xp} for the XP amount and {expire} for when the drop expires.
  • Action After Claim: What happens to the drop message after a member claims it. Choose Edit Message, which shows who claimed the drop, or Delete Message.

A member with the Manage Server permission can also trigger a drop manually with /drop <amount> [channel].

Example: Every 30 minutes, a drop of 10–50 XP appears in #general. A member types /drop and claims 25 XP. If no one claims it within 5 minutes, it expires.

Kiai only triggers a drop in response to a member sending a message, using a random chance that rises over the course of the day toward your configured Drops per Day. A server with no message activity does not produce drops, even with the feature enabled. A drop is claimed on a first-come, first-served basis as the claim button stops working for everyone else as soon as one eligible member clicks it. Kiai only checks whether a drop has expired when someone clicks its button, so an unclaimed, expired drop can still show an active-looking button until someone tries to claim it.

XP Decay

XP Decay removes XP from members over time to encourage ongoing participation.

Configure XP Decay in /settings > XP Decay.

  • Status: Turns the feature on or off.
  • Interval: How often decay happens. Set between 4 hours and 30 days.
  • Amount: How much XP is removed from each member when decay happens.

Example: XP Decay is set to remove 5 XP every 24 hours. A member with 100 XP loses 5 XP each day they do not earn new XP, which encourages ongoing activity to maintain their level.

XP Decay only affects a member if their current XP is greater than the decay amount. Kiai never reduces a member's XP below zero, and a member with less XP than the decay amount is left unchanged that cycle.

Every time decay runs, Kiai can log it to a channel you choose. The log includes the number of members affected, the total XP removed, and a file listing each member's XP before and after decay (up to the first 5,000 members). See Logging for setup steps.

Reaction XP

Reaction XP awards XP for reactions on messages. Both the member who adds a reaction and the member whose message receives it can earn XP.

Configure Reaction XP in /settings > Reaction XP.

  • Reaction XP: Turns the feature on or off.
  • Max Daily Reactions Eligible for XP: How many reactions per member per day can earn XP when they add a reaction. This limit does not apply to XP a member earns when their own messages receive a reaction. That XP is uncapped.
  • XP for Giving Reactions: How much XP a member earns for adding a reaction.
  • XP for Receiving Reactions: How much XP the message author earns when their message receives a reaction.
  • XP for Giving Super Reactions (premium): How much XP a member earns for adding a Discord Super Reaction.
  • XP for Receiving Super Reactions (premium): How much XP the message author earns when their message receives a Super Reaction.

A member does not earn XP for reacting to their own message. Bots, and reactions sent in direct messages, do not earn XP. Kiai processes Reaction XP in batches roughly every 5 minutes, so it does not appear immediately after a member reacts.
