CakeyBot vs Kiai: A Multi-Purpose Bot vs a Leveling Bot

September 15, 2026

CakeyBot's free leveling is solid but capped: 10 role rewards, 5 multipliers. Kiai runs uncapped with a dashboard, and imports CakeyBot levels in one command.

CakeyBot is a Swiss army knife: music with 24/7 playback, AI chat and image tools, auto responders, tickets, starboards, leveling, and a lot more besides. That breadth is the whole comparison. If you installed CakeyBot for the music and stuck around for the leveling, its leveling tier comes with count caps. If leveling is what your server runs on, that's where Kiai's model diverges.

What CakeyBot's leveling looks like free

Credit first, from their own documentation, because it's better than most multi-purpose bots' free tiers: message XP (15-25 default) and voice XP (5-8 per minute, free), role rewards, leaderboards with weekly and monthly periods, XP multipliers, random XP drops, double-XP days, XP decay, and import from MEE6 or Lurkr. Their export command sends you a CSV any time, free. That's a lot of free leveling.

Then the caps, from their own premium comparison table:

  • Role rewards: 10 free. 20 on premium.
  • XP multipliers: 5 free. 10 on premium.
  • Pinned leaderboards: 1 free. 3 on premium, 5 on custom bot.
  • Leaderboard vanity URLs, premium /rank banners, embed-format level-up messages: premium only.
  • Leaderboard position roles: top 3 free, positions 4-10 premium.

And one design choice worth knowing: Cakey Personal, their user subscription, gives the member a +50% XP bonus in every server. So paid members type onto your leaderboard faster than everyone else.

The tradeoff you're actually making

CakeyBot's leveling free tier is real, and for a server under ten role rewards and five multipliers it works. The trade is structural: because CakeyBot supports dozens of features, leveling improvements must share roadmap space with music and AI, and the count-capped premium model means growth (more rewards, more multipliers, more pinned boards) is a subscription rather than a configuration.

Kiai runs the other direction. Levels, voice XP, rewards, multipliers, announcements, denylists, streaks, drops, leaderboard position roles, and a dashboard are free, and premium ($1.99+/month per server, scaling with size) buys different tiers of features: custom rank card styling, automatic leaderboards, prestige, unlimited temporary multipliers. No metered counts on leveling core.

What CakeyBot has that Kiai doesn't

Being honest, because this is a real comparison: CakeyBot ships quirks we like. Random XP drops with themed seasonal artwork and captcha-style claims to stop bots. Double-XP days pinned to weekdays and their timezone. A percentage-based XP decay system. If those specific mechanics are your server's whole vibe, that's an argument for keeping CakeyBot for engagement events (Kiai has equivalents, check the details below).

Kiai answers each of these natively: XP drops with claimable prizes and {expire} message templates, double-XP events via temporary multipliers, and XP decay that trims inactive members' XP on a set interval with its own logging. The mechanics differ in style (CakeyBot's decay is percentage-based daily with a floor and DM opt-outs; Kiai's is a fixed amount per interval) but the toolkit is the same, and on Kiai none of it is metered behind a count cap.

What Kiai has that CakeyBot caps

  • No 10-reward ceiling, and reward types go beyond roles: UnbelievaBoat money rewards, custom messages, nickname formats, signed webhooks.
  • Temporary multipliers without a count cap (duration over 24 hours is premium).
  • Full dashboard for leveling config, not a music-first admin panel.
  • Broader imports: twelve bots including MEE6, Amari, Tatsu, LevelUp, and Lurkr, several one-command without files.
  • Leaderboard position roles, streaks, prestige, rank card personalization at sensible tier placements.

The reverse case: CakeyBot's music and AI features are legitimately popular, and Kiai has zero interest in competing there. Many servers should keep both.

The migration path

Kiai's CakeyBot import runs from an export file: run CakeyBot's /setup export-cakey-levels (free, instant, gives you a CSV JSON for the server), attach it to /import, and member levels come across. Reward configurations don't transfer (the export is leveling data), so re-add rewards in the dashboard: ten minutes with your old setup as reference.

One caution CakeyBot's own docs give that applies to any migration: their import wipes prior data; ours replaces selected data types rather than merging. Either way, import once, verify the leaderboard top pages, then decide which bot stays.

Quick answers

Is CakeyBot's free leveling good enough? For servers inside the caps, genuinely yes. The premium matters when role rewards exceed ten or multipliers exceed five.

Wait, CakeyBot has voice XP free? Yes, 5-8 per minute. The comparison is not MEE6-style; CakeyBot's leveling generosity is real. Divergence is in caps, config surface, and dedicated development focus.

Keep both? Common pattern: CakeyBot for music and AI, Kiai for leveling. They don't conflict, and your leaderboard only counts XP from one bot, so members aren't confused by two sources of truth.

Does Cakey Personal XP boost transfer? No; that's their feature and it stays there. Kiai deliberately does not sell members personal XP boosts; paid leaderboard advantages aren't something our premium tiers do.

What about XP decay? If you liked the mechanic, note the community pushback it usually generates (members losing progress over a two-week vacation). Role-reward reversal on demotion covers the "fairness" use case on Kiai without touching earned XP.
